• Question: do you enjoy what you do, if you could change anything to do with your work environment then what would it be?

      Hi koolkiziah!

      I really enjoy what I do. Studying volcanoes is a lot of fun and we get to travel and visit really amazing places. But on top of that the research we do really can make a difference to people lives. By better understanding how volcanoes work we will be better equipped to protect people from the hazards they pose. That makes my work even more enjoyable.

      My work environment is pretty decent as it is when I’m out on a volcano. But if I could change my office work environment I think I would like to have a sofa, hot tub, TV and bed for when I need a rest or power nap!

      I really enjoy what I do, I love using science to feel like I am making a difference. Just seeing my patients happy and thanking me in a way I know they mean it is a brilliant feeling. One of my patients wanted to give me a hug the other day, she said she was so grateful…..but she was radioactive so I wasn’t keen!

      The one thing I really miss though is fresh air. I work on the 5th floor of a big hospital and sometimes have no idea what the weather has done for the whole day. I would really love to work outside.

      Hi koolkiziah,

      At times, research can be very frustrating (when things don’t work or the results aren’t what you expected!), but the satisfaction of a successful experiment is definitely worth it and so, overall, I definitely enjoy what I do!

      I have the same problem as Julie and I am often stuck inside a lab or office all day, so the one thing I would change in my working environment would also be more fresh air!

      Yes I really like to do research round the clock. I like to work during the late hours, I am surely not an early bird. I wish, if I could change the time, so the night would be day, and the day would be night 🙂
      Well, I can go to other part of the world to adjust in days and nights LOL…
