Transplant patients donate their old livers to the labs where I work and the livers are then chopped up so we can get certain cells out of them. Different cell types can then be grown separately and used in experiments. I also get white blood cells from samples of human blood (sometimes it’s still warm, which is gross!) and use those in experiments where we watch them (under a microscope!) stick to, and go inside, other cells.
-
My Typical Day:
Running around trying to as many experiments as I can!
-
What I'd do with the prize money:
I’d use it to organise an American-style science fair at a local school.
